1.Take this sheet of orders with you to the hospital on day of procedure.
2.Preregister at “Outpatient check-in” at least one day before the procedure either in person
or by calling 843-777-2095 (McLeod) or 843-661-3047 (Carolinas) with insurance information in
hand. If unable to preregister, come to procedure at least 60 minutes early.
3.Clear liquids all day the day before the procedure.
Fruit- All clear or strained fruit juices (no pulp). No milk.
Beverages- Coffee, tea (sugar ok), and carbonated beverages
Kool-aid, Gatorade, Ginger-ale, popsicles, Jello (but not red or purple in
color)
Soups- Clear Broth, Bouilion, consomme
4.At 4:00 PM, the day before the procedure, begin drinking the gallon of Colyte (or Nulytely).
Drink 8 oz. Every 15 minutes or 1 quart per hour until the entire gallon is gone. If you get
nauseated, go more slowly or take a break. Try to get as much of the gallon down as you can,
since a good look in the colon is not possible with stool in the way.
5.Someone else must be able to drive you home after sedation for the
procedure since it is illegal to drive under these conditions for 24
hours. The procedure will not be done unless this arrangement is made.
You are not allowed to ride a bus unless accompanied by someone.
6.If you take Coumadin or warfarin, stop taking at least 4 days before procedure (if ok with your
M.D., and be sure to tell the person at check-in so a prothrombin time can be drawn.
7.You may take your Blood Pressure and Heart medications with a little water on the morning of
the procedure. If diabetic, do not take diabetic pills or insulin until after the procedure. |
